From Goodreads:

The critically acclaimed, bestselling novel from Gayle Forman, author of Where She Went, Just One Day, and the forthcoming Just One Year.

On a day that started like any other,

Mia had everything: a loving family, a gorgeous, admiring boyfriend, and a bright future full of music and full of choices. In an instant, almost all of that is taken from her. Caught between life and death, between a happy past and an unknowable future, Mia spends one critical day contemplating the only decision she has left. It is the most important decision she’ll ever make.

Simultaneously tragic and hopeful, this is a romantic, riveting, and ultimately uplifting story about memory, music, living, dying, loving.

Well, I don’t really know where to focus because sadness flooded my ideas. Okay. I shall start.

Her Family. Mia has an awesome family. A musically inclined mom and dad and a golden-haired younger brother who truly cares for her even if her type of music is very different from theirs, and she still have their support and love of course. Aside from that, Mia has also her grandparents, her Gran and Gramps. Well, even though they are not technically close with her Gramps, he still cares for her and even physically supports her in her auditions.

Adam. The thought of him being in love with Mia makes me happy. There are very few of guys nowadays who are like Adam. That thing that even he and Mia are having a hard time intersecting their schedules, they still can manage to go out and celebrate.

I can’t deny that this guy is so sweet.

Isn’t he sweet in the part of the pizza tips and Yo yo ma?

Isn’t he sweet in the ICU moments with the full support of his band friends?

Isn’t he sweet that he even bargained his happiness just to let Mia stay?

Yes, he is. He really is.

Kim. Here goes Kim. I never thought that her friendship with Mia started like that. And I didn’t thought how strong she is even if her best friend is in coma and still she can managed to remember the says and moments she shared with Mia and replaying it to her like she’s delivering a secret message to Mia to stay.

Music. This is a great part of Mia’s happiness. It molded her into what she is and what she must be.

It’s a big choice Mia will make throughout the story. If I Stay is a very sad one, full of grief, of happy memories and of difficult decisions. Full of lessons, of hopes and dreams. If I stay touched my heart. It states the fact that you can’t get the best of both worlds so you have to choose and that choice of yours will determine what your future will be.
